PROMPT: ' The young lovers do not deserve what happens to them.' Romeo and Juliet Essay

Romeo and Juliet Essay ‘The young lovers do not deserve what happens to them.’

The young lovers, Romeo and Juliet did deserve what happened to them, however, many other characters contributed to their deaths as well. It was due to Romeo’s irrational thoughts and actions, and it was because the couple could only see things in their own perspective and had neither wisdom nor forbearance that caused them to die.

The feud between the Capulets and the Montagues impacted on Romeo and Juliet’s death immensely. The constant feud between the two families meant that Romeo and Juliet had to secretly love and be with each other discreetly. “My only love sprung from my only hate!” “ ‘Tis but thy name that is my enemy.” Romeo and Juliet’s marriage was never going to be accepted by their own families, yet they went behind their families backs to find a way to be together which unfortunately ended up in death. After Romeo spent the night with Juliet, he had to leave the Capulet’s house straight away so the parents of Juliet could not see him. This shows that Romeo and Juliet’s relationship was very fragile and was never going to work out, and if they continued to love each other, danger was bound to happen.

Romeo had been given warnings about loving and marrying Juliet, but he ignored what was presented to him and paid the price. As Romeo mentioned to Friar Lawrence that he met Juliet and he wanted to marry Juliet, Friar instantly questioned why Romeo changed from loving Rosaline to Juliet so quickly. “Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here!” “Is Rosaline that thou didst love so soon forsaken?” Friar Lawrence then warned Romeo about loving and marrying Juliet. “Young men’s love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.” “These violent delights have violent ends.” “Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast.” Romeo was so caught up with the happiness he had with Juliet at that time, that he only thought about how great this marriage will be and how great of a time he will have with Juliet in the coming days. But Romeo didn’t think one bit about the dangers that could arouse in the future. He did not think about the dangers that he could cause with his family and friends, especially when the two families were enemies. It was due to Romeo’s selfish actions that led to the couple’s untimely deaths.

In some aspects, Romeo and Juliet didn’t deserve what happened to them, and they may just be two young lovers who could not control their feelings and emotions for each other. When Juliet went to Friar Lawrence for help, Friar Lawrence came up with a rushed plan, which was not thought out thoroughly. Since Juliet was so desperate at that time, she threatened to kill herself if Friar Lawrence did not help. “And with this knife, I’ll help it presently.” “Be not so long to speak, I long to die.” If Juliet was threatening to kill herself, Friar Lawrence should of come up with a thoroughly thought out plan in which he should of anticipated any problems the plan may encounter. Instead, Friar came up with a rushed, dangerous plan, which resulted in death. Romeo and Juliet are teenage lovers who fell in love at first sight, and cannot resist being apart from each other. Romeo and Juliet didn’t deserve to die since they were young, inexperienced lovers, who were just enjoying their first taste of love, even if they had to put their loved ones at risk.

The young lovers, Romeo and Juliet, did deserve what happened to them. Romeo had countless opportunities to listen to others for guidance and advice, yet he simply turned them down and followed what he himself only believed in and paid the price, which unfortunately outweighed the benefit inevitably. Juliet decided to go forward with risky plans, which she had not thought through at all, and did not listen to her loved ones instead of someone who she was not close to at all. Romeo and Juliet both knew that their relationship was going cause problems, yet they selfishly continued to love one another and paid the price.T
